Visual Meta GmbH is an innovative e-commerce company based in the heart of Berlin, which has grown rapidly since being founded in 2009. In 2011 our company was acquired by the Axel Springer Group, Germany’s leading publishing house.
We run shopping platforms named LadenZeile and ShopAlike worldwide, offering fashion, furniture and a variety of other products to our users. Our service is used by thousands of daily visitors and an ever-increasing number of partner shops.
On a technical level we deal a lot with data mining and analysis, large databases, images, search technologies, machine learning and web technologies. We code stuff that matters and reaches millions of people. Our technology stack is plain Java, MySQL, Hadoop, Spring, Eclipse and Tomcat.
Your profile:
- University degree in Computer Science or a related field
- Proven development experience with Java and a good understanding of algorithms and their complexity
- Very good understanding of relational database systems such as MySQL
- Fluent in spoken and written English
- First experience with Hadoop and/or HBase, knowledge of other NoSQL technologies is a plus
- Passion for beautiful, test-driven code and an eye for simplicity and pragmatism
- Analytical mindset with a kick-ass “getting things done” and hands-on mentality
Your responsibilities:
- Building and maintaining highly scalable backend services using modern tools and ensuring the best possible performance of our applications
- Developing in-house tools and libraries, for example caches, RPC or ORM
- Writing tests and being responsible for reviewing codes ensuring the best possible code quality
- Integrating and maintaining developed services into production
- Building scalable data stores based on technologies like MySQL, HBase or Elasticsearch
